1. Meet Sombra
Blizzcon just finished up, and the internet is meeting the newest member of the Overwatch team, Sombra. She’s been placed in the game as an excellent counter because she can hack, and thus shut down, many characters’ skills. Go test her out on the PTR!
2. Overwatch League
It’s Overwatch meets Esports with the Overwatch League. Blizzard wants set teams of players to duke it out in their newest game. The twist is that they want teams based on cities, not teams based on countries. This means that fans can cheer on their team based on their city, instead of some branded team from Razer.
Blizzard also wants to pay these team members a set salary to offer more stability in their lives. It’s a step towards moving Esports into a real space with older, more established sports.
3. New Game Modes For Overwatch
They’ve announced an arcade system to allow players to explore new characters without harsh penalties. There’s all random, mystery duels, and all kinds of neat stuff to do, now, instead of the same old thing.
4. Necromancer & Diablo 1 Confirmed For Diablo 3
Not only is necromancer confirmed for Diablo 3, it will be coming to the game early next year!
As well, Blizzard is remaking Diablo 1 as a playable game in Diablo 3. It will be available during January as a special event.
5. Hitman Season 2 Confirmed
This season looks to take place entirely in Paris, which may or may not be a good thing, given how many previous locales were in Season 1. The episodic format seems to be working for them, so it isn’t going away, and there are no major changes to gameplay – more story progression, than anything.
6. Mass Effect Andromeda Updates
The game’s story is going to be more contained, instead of packaged as a trilogy, so the game will be standalone. Gameplay will have more of an emphasis on crafting, and multiplayer will be squad members fighting off waves of baddies to earn card packs. Loyalty missions are back, but not mandatory.
