Use Google and YouTube trends to get more views on your YouTube channel!
Google and YouTube trends are incredible useful to YouTubers. They show what things are popular and, by extension, what people want to watch. Using the website can be a little confusing, so we’re here to show you exactly how to make use of it.
Head on over to the Google Trends website and type in a topic. Try something semi-specific like “Minecraft,” not “games”. That way, your results are more reliable and useful when you want to apply them to your YouTube channel.
Now, you’ll see a graph that shows you the interest over time, which is essentially the amount of times people have looked into this specific term. The graph covers a big range of years to the current one so understand that the lines are extremely relative.
We can make this more specific though by going up above and changing the time table to the past 7 days or past 30 days. These will let you see the most recent interest in the topic.
Next, you can switch the search to be even more specific and limit it to only YouTube results. This cuts the audience down a bunch but it puts a focus on what matters the most to you: YouTube! Once you switch it you can see how the graph shifts different for video content. You can also see what countries are most interested in it right below that and what searches are related to it.
Putting it Together
All of this information is great, but how do you make use of it? Well, on a basic level, it simply tells you what people are into right now, or very close to right now. With that information, you can make your videos based on what people are currently interested in and you will likely see an uptick in the number of views your stuff receives.
You can also use it to gauge how popular things are overall. You might notice that Minecraft for example has dipped a lot since its release and only have spikes of popularity. That might mean that it’s not the best decision if you’re trying to get into that specific type of content.
You might also notice that the related searches are often related to how-tos and servers. Those might not be the type of videos you want to make and therefore might not end up being as popular.
Obviously, you should be careful to let only trends guide your YouTube channel, but it’s very important to check in on these and understand the whys of what’s popular on your channel. None of these graphs will lead you to instant success, but they’re a good way to measure what’s going on on YouTube and how you could combine the audience’s interest with your desire to make certain content.
