5. Day One DLC
Just looking at that series of words makes you rage, right? You’ve bought the game. You’ve gotten home and you want to play…and you don’t even have the full game because the company decided to tack on a little extra, for a fee.
Why wasn’t this content already in the pre-packaged game? The world may never know. Oh wait, we do, it’s because they want more money.
4. Quicktime Events
You’re in the middle of a bloodthirsty rampage against a horde of enemies, cutting through the swathes of baddies like butter. Then a big baddie shows up and, instead of an awesome boss fight, you’re in some unwanted cutscene, being forced to press a button or two to continue.
Just let me slaughter my enemies in peace, please. I’m looking at you FFXV, with all your QTEs. You need to cut that out.
3. Fetch Quests
In most games, you are the absolute pinnacle of hero. You have dashed dragons to the ground and vanquished vampires! So then, why are you being sent to get boar tusks or elf glue or whatever the heck the next NPC wants? Because you’re the hero!
Seriously, there’s no good way to put these into the game, unless you’re gathering components for a humongous spell or an epic weapon. Those are actually pretty fun.
2. Escort Quests
You know, it’s almost like they want to infuriate us by giving the NPC we’re supposed to be protecting the worst AI in the world. They also like to make their movement speed too slow to run, but too fast to walk alongside the NPC. Great job guys, we’ve loved these types of quests since Natalya in Goldeneye 007.
Seriously, what did you think was going to be number one? From paying for cool new skins, to purchasing OP weapons for your character, this trend has got to go. We get that game companies use this to make a little extra on their games, but it has gotten completely out of control.
Paying for parts of a UI? Utter nonsense. I’ll take that sweet pink dye for my weapon though. Don’t judge.
